Summer Reading 2012: Dream Big…Read!

The library’s Summer Reading program is a fun way to stay engaged in reading and learning over the summer. The program is free and there are versions for all ages, from the youngest babies to kids, teens and even adults.

All programs begin June 1 and end August 4.

Little Stars

Birth to Age 5
Parents will get a calendar and stickers to use as you read with your children and do simple activities like singing a lullaby. Complete the program, and beginning July 6, you’ll receive a free book.

Dream Big, Read!

Ages 5-12
Kids who sign up to dream big through reading books will be challenged to read for 20 hours and do 10 of our suggested activities. Check back in at the library over the summer to attend programs, get more books and show us your progress.

Group Summer Reading

Child care centers, clubs, etc.
We’ve put together a special version of Summer Reading that’s easy to do with a small group of kids like a child care center or a scout troop. Do eight of the suggested activities together, and your group will receive some free books and every participant will receive a small reward. Sign up online.

Own the Night Teen Reading Challenge

Ages 12-18
Teens who sign up will be challenged to read for 20 hours, share three book reviews and do seven of our suggested activities. Get your card punched as you go, and when you finish, you’ll be entered in a drawing for other rewards. Check out DBRL Teen for more information.

Books by Snail

Youth living in Boone and Callaway County cities not served by a library building including Auxvasse, Hallsville, Harrisburg, Holts Summit, Kingdom City, Mokane, New Bloomfield, Sturgeon and Williamsburg are eligible. Ask about it at school or sign up online starting June 1.

Between the Covers

Why should kids have all the fun? While you’re at the library picking up your next great read or browsing the online book reviews at DBRL Next, take a moment to register for the Between the Covers Adult Summer Reading program. Throughout the summer, share your reviews of what you’re reading to be entered in weekly drawings to win bookstore gift certificates, and participate in online contests or follow us on Facebook for chances to win other prizes.
